What if the size does not divide evenly?
Grid mode spreads the odd pixels across tiles; size mode leaves smaller tiles at the right and bottom edges.

Grids and fixed tiles

Rows and columns split evenly, spreading any leftover pixels so every tile is within a pixel of the others: a 3×3 for an Instagram grid, a 2×2 for a puzzle. A fixed tile size cuts sprites or map tiles from a large sheet, leaving smaller tiles along the right and bottom edges. Tiles are named by row and column so they sort in order.
